Photo Gallery VIII: The Lake House Restaurant on Forest Lake in  Minnesota
Architectural design, architectural interior design and interior design features.

The Lake House is a waterside restaurant on Forest Lake, Minnesota, drawing patrons from nearby White Bear, Stillwater, Mahtomedi and Hugo, Minnesota. The owners had more institutional looking plans in the works when our involvement began. The exterior of the restaurant was given an entirely new look, more in keeping with that of a waterside location - and The Lake House name they had chosen, while retaining the already approved footprint and kitchen of the building.

Architecturally, exterior gables, large windows with lots of white trim and details were added to create character, interest and charm along with a cupola, false pergola and large wood columns at the entrance. Huge shutters in marine blue designed for the exterior and interior were constructed cost effectively with siding materials.

The interior architecture, custom millwork, the lighting plan and light fixtures were designed to enhance the cottage-style feeling. Features designed for the main dining room include a wood paneled tray ceiling sporting an exotic fan adorned with a monkey, a large soft white fireplace mantle is set off by a dark paneled wall and photographic art is lighted with projecting exterior lighting. Custom furniture such as the 8” long serving table in the main dining and the bamboo and louvered reception desk and the wine cabinet with coolers below contribute a more residential feeling. In the bead-board paneled porch dining room the canoe was drawn right on the interior architectural plans—as were the framed photographic art prints and light fixtures throughout. Following the architectural inter design a team effort (with one of the owners) went into the selection of the dining chairs and tables and booth and banquette as well as fabrics, wall colors and textures.
