Photo Gallery VII: Lakeshore Condominium Remodel This project was an extreme makeover request: Take a contemporary condominium and turn it into a cottage inside. The large contemporary vaulted ceiling had to go. We followed the vault to the center of the fireplace, added a ‘ridge beam’ and vaulted back down toward the kitchen and dining area. The rounded windows in the dining area provided the perfect opportunity to create a gazebo ceiling. The clients wanted to keep the tile floor and refrigerator—that was it, but they wanted it lakeshore cottage and rustic simultaneously. So we combined the antique and old woods (found in California and the Midwest) throughout and the fresh painted paneling and cottage-style doors and trims for contrast. We used an eight foot long German cabinet (circa 1880) for the master bath vanity, added bronze sinks and wall faucets and custom cottage-style mirrored medicine cabinets.
