Photo Gallery V: A LAKE FRONT DREAM HOME This is the finished interior of the home in the pervious gallery, Gallery # IV This home is on the east shore of West Lake Okoboji owned by an active family of four and used as a weekend home. My best work occurs when clients really allow me the room to design for them, without heavy handed design input—and these clients did just that and enjoyed each step in the design development as it was ready. I am grateful to them for working with me in such a way and they are extremely happy with the results. So much so that they had a large party to show off their home and introduced me as their architectural designer and introduced the builder and the cabinet maker as well. We all know they will enjoy it for years to come—because its design is timeless. For more information about this project please see Gallery IV where there is more detail about the project itself.   Kitchen This very custom, lake home kitchen is unique at every turn.   Foyer From the foyer one can enter the kitchen through arched custom designed shuttered doors.   Husky Island Legs The island legs were hand turned using a full scale drawing. Custom Cabinets Because of strong winds in this area the windows are actually awning windows topped with fixed windows to appear as double hung.   Cabinet Detail The rounded corners add a touch of refinement to an otherwise casual look.   Cabinet Detail  A beaded board interior and seeded glass for display items. A Large Arched Opening Beneath it are back to back island cabinets: One, the kitchen bar and the facing the dining a piece of custom made furniture.   Vaulted and Beamed Kitchen Ceiling Custom designed beams sport an arched element reminiscent of the hull of a boat.   Ice Box What appears to be an old ice box is a custom designed cabinet to store food and or dishes. Custom Designed Walnut Cabinet –Has ample storage and blocks the nitty-gritty view of kitchen dishes and pans during dinners.   The Dining Room Ceiling -As seen through the arch from the kitchen-is made of antique wood and beams.   Dining Room The Woodland table and hutch complimented by lighting found by the homeowners. Foyer The custom entrance door is 4 feet wide and 8 feet tall.   The Stairway Soft white and dark wood contrast to create the nautical feeling.   Hallway This hall houses the powder room and coat room on its way to the children’s locker area. The Locker Area Custom louvered swinging doors lead to the shower and locker area bath and dressing.   Corrugated Metal and Old Wood Rough and tumble is the look for the locker room area.   The Link -Connecting the entertainment building to the locker area and the entertainment building. An Arched Opening - Seen from the living room toward the foyer   From the Foyer to the Living Room Guests are treated to a lake view framed by French doors as they enter.   Two-Story Living Room Three small windows bring in light through a lake side guest suite. The Living Room Custom limestone fireplace and antique columns open to a multi windowed porch.   The Porch —for those lazy hazy days of summer.
